About John Machado

Professor John Machado is one of five brothers of the world-renowned Machado Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu martial art family.

Born in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil; John began his jiu-jitsu training over twenty years ago. Dominating the competitive arena of Brazilian  Jiu Jitsu in his native country, seizing every major title and competitive award from 1982-1990, John holds the prestigious rank of 4th degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Dominating the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu scene both in the U.S. and in international competition, John is one of the most admired and respected Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioners in the world today.

Recognized and respected for his outstanding fighting and competitive accomplishments, as well as his teaching expertise, John is in demand throughout the world as one of the foremost authorities in the martial arts. John's talent has been showcased in several major motion pictures and television appearances.

Professor Machado has also worked with Shihan Avi Nardia on the KAPAP system and helped develop the ground weapons defense techniques now taught to many military and police units around the world. Professor Machado has been to Israel to teach the elite units as well.

John has had numerous movie and television roles such as Duel of Legends (2009), Redbelt, Mean Guns (1997), Fatboy Heatseeker (1995), Budokam Fighter Kickboxer 4: The Aggressor (1994), and Under Siege 2: Dark Territory (1991). Professor Machado also had a role in the television series Walker Texas Ranger, as himself.

John produced and starred in the film Brazilian Brawl (2003), along with martial arts legend Dan Inosanto, and his brothers Carlos Machado, Jean Jacques Machado, Rigan Machado, and Roger Machado.

Professor Machado currently runs his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academies in Culver City, California and Torrance, California.
